Catullus 84

Chommoda dicebat, si quando commoda vellet
Arrius was saying "hadvantages," if ever he wished to say "advantages"

dicebat, et insidias Arrius hinsidias,
and "hambushes" (if he ever wished to says) "ambushes,"

et tum mirifice sperabat se esse locutum,
and at that time he was wishing that he had spoke remarkably well

cum quantum poterat dixerat hinsidias.
when he had said as loudly as he could "hambush."

5 Credo, sic mater, sic liber avunculus eius,
I believe, in this way his mother, in this way his free uncle,

sic maternus avus dixerat atque avia.
in this way the maternal grandfather and grandmother had said.

Hoc misso in Syriam requierant omnibus aures:
with this having been sent into Syria the ears had found relief for all:

audibant eadem haec leniter et leviter,
they were hearing these same words gently and lightly

nec sibi postilla metuebant talia verba,
and they were not fearing such words for themselves after a time

10 cum subito affertur nuntius horribilis,
when suddenly a horrible message was brought

Ionios fluctus, postquam illuc Arrius isset,
that the Ionian wave, after Arrius had gone there

iam non Ionios esse sed Hionios.
now it is now not Ionian but Hionian.
