Catullus 69

Noli admirari, quare tibi femina nulla,
Do not wonder, why no woman, Rufus, is willing

Rufe, velit tenerum supposuisse femur,
to have placed her tender thigh next to you,

non si illam rarae labefactes munere vestis
not if you would seduce her with a gift of loosely woven garment

aut perluciduli deliciis lapidis.
or the delights of a translucent stone.

5 laedit te quaedam mala fabula, qua tibi fertur
A certain bad rumor harms you, in which a harsh goat

valle sub alarum trux habitare caper.
is said to live under the valley of your armpits.

hunc metuunt omnes, neque mirum: nam mala valde est
Everyone fears this, and (it is) no wonder; for it is a very bad

bestia, nec quicum bella puella cubet.
beast, and not with whom a pretty girl would lie.

quare aut crudelem nasorum interfice pestem,
Therefore either kill the cruel plague of noses,

10 aut admirari desine cur fugiunt.
or stop wondering why they flee.
